Summary
Established in 1932 following the transfer of some business functions from the Government Savings Bank of New South Wales to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in late 1931. The bank had previously been the Rural Bank Department of the Government Savings Bank. The main business transferred to the new entity was the loan business of the old department.
In 1981 the name of the bank was changed to the State bank of New South Wales and it was incorporated under corporations legislation in 1990.
The business was subsequently absorbed into the Colonial group of companies.
