In 1951 the Bank of Australasia and the Union Bank of Australia Ltd merged to form the Australia and New Zealand Bank Ltd. A merger in 1970 with the English Scottish and Australian Bank Ltd saw the formation of the Australian and New Zealand banking Group Ltd.
