Summary
In 1984 the State Savings Bank of South Australian and the Savings Bank of South Australia merged and traded as the State Bank of South Australia.
In 1991/92 the State Bank of South Australia faced financial collapse. The State Government decided to split the bank into non-performing and performing parts. The non-performing operations were retained as government debt. The performing operations were acquired by Advance Bank as the Bank of South Australia (trading as Bank SA).
